I have recently been working with the
Georges Malaika Foundation, which is currently responsible for the education and upbringing of 16 Congolese orphan girls. The founder, Congolese- Cypriot Noella Coursaris, runs the foundation alongside a modelling career and raising awareness of some of the problems facing DCR.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to the charity and have been helping organise the charity fashion show, which is being held this Saturday October 2nd. The evening will showcase a beautiful collection of Congolese garments, which have been made by the orphans and are to be auctioned off to raise funds towards building a school. We are also exploring the possibility of starting up a fashion label, which would allow the girls to design and create garments all year round, introducing some truly beautiful garments into the UK market...watch this space!
So if you fancy a few drinks, some Congolese fashion and a DJ set played by Carl Kennedy come along! You can buy your tickets from Noellla by emailing
rsvp@gmfafrica.org and the event is being held at
The Penthouse, 39-43 Underwood St. N1 7LG London.
Look forward to seeing you there!
